Depending on arrival times, there may be an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk along the Atlantic coastline and begin soaking in the energy of Morocco's largest city. In the evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and an introduction to the journey ahead.

Exploring the Highlights of Tangier
Today, discover the historic heart of Tangier with a guided exploration of the Kasbah and Medina. Wander through narrow alleyways, vibrant markets, and historic fortifications while learning about the city's unique role as a crossroads of cultures for centuries. You'll set out with your guide for a tour of the Kasbah — an old style of medina formerly used as a fortress — and the Kasbah Museum, housed in the former sultan's palace. As you walk past minarets, markets, and jewelry shops, your guide will regale you with stories about the people who have called Tangier home, including Paul Bowles, Henri Matisse, and Eugene Delacroix.
In the afternoon, participate in a hands-on Moroccan cooking class. Learn traditional techniques and recipes before sharing the delicious meal you've helped prepare.
American Legation Museum & Transfer to Akchour
Begin the day with a special visit to the American Legation Museum, the only U.S. National Historic Landmark located outside the United States. Through its exhibits and collections, discover the rich history connecting Morocco and America.Afterward, leave the coast behind and travel into the Rif Mountains to the breathtaking natural setting of Akchour. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, forests, and crystal-clear streams, Akchour offers a peaceful retreat and the perfect setting for the next chapter of our eclipse journey.
Ermitage d'AkchourAkchour, Morocco
Ermitage d'Akchour is an eco-lodge situated deep in the Rif Mountains, Nestled along the river, it is the perfect basecamp for exploring the region. The property features traditional, comfortable cabins and a renowned outdoor terrace restaurant serving local Moroccan cuisine right by the river.
Exploring the Wonders of the Akchour Region
Spend the day immersed in the spectacular landscapes of Akchour. Follow scenic trails through lush valleys, visit cascading waterfalls, and enjoy panoramic views of the Rif Mountains. For those up for more of a challenge, there will be an opportunity to witness to the famous God's Bridge, one of Morocco's most remarkable natural formations.
The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing, swimming in natural pools, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the mountains.
Chefchaouen, the Blue City
This morning, we'll to explore Chefchaouen, the Blue City. Our time in Chefchaouen begins with a walking tour of the city. Follow winding cobblestone roads and narrow alleyways full of brilliant blue buildings with red-tiled rooftops. Throughout your walk, your guide will share the fascinating history of this city and explain why the buildings are painted blue. You'll also have plenty of opportunities to photograph the town's vibrant street scenes. After an independent lunch, there will be time to explore the souk and its myriad artisan handicraft shops before returning to the resort.
As anticipation for the eclipse builds, we'll gather to learn more about the science, history, and cultural significance of solar eclipses in this region while preparing for the extraordinary event awaiting us tomorrow morning.
Eclipse Day, Continue to Tetouan
Today is the moment we've all been waiting for: the Total Solar Eclipse of 2027. Gather with fellow travelers to witness this extraordinary celestial event from our carefully chosen location as the moon's shadow passes over Morocco, transforming day into twilight and creating a truly unforgettable experience.
Following the eclipse, take time to absorb the moment and reflect on this rare phenomenon before departing the Rif Mountains. Our next stop is Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its rich Andalusian influences and vibrant cultural traditions.

Morocco has a diverse climate that varies from a mild Mediterranean pattern along the coasts to hot and arid conditions in the interior and the Sahara Desert. We will spend our time primarily in northern coastal areas where the temperature is moderated by the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Rif Mountains. The eclipse will be best viewed from Tetouan, along the Mediterranean coast in the northernmost region in Morocco. During August, temperatures are likely to rise into the upper 80s and perhaps the mid 90s, fahrenheit and rain will be very unlikely. Temperatures are difficult to predict these days and could be significantly warmer at times than expected. Plan to drink lots of water and take breaks in the shade to cool down during daytime activities.
The only time to see the total solar eclipse will be on August 2, 2027. This is the warmest, driest time of year, and you can expect to meet plenty of other travelers drawn to the eclipse, the temperate coastal areas, and the beautiful seaside. Bring an outgoing spirit and you are sure to enjoy chatting with locals and visitors from around Morocco and the world.
Moroccan cuisine benefits from a wide range of Mediterranean fruits, vegetables, and livestock. Couscous is a national staple, typically topped with meats, which are often cooked inside a tagine (a triangular, earthenware vessel) alongside vegetables. A series of hot and cold salads are usually served before the tagine. Pork and alcohol are rarely consumed at traditional meals due to religious restrictions. Morocco's most popular national beverage is mint tea, served in abundance around the country.

In keeping with this spirit, we typically include local beer and wine with group dinners. If you prefer premium wine, or liquor, please feel free to order what you like, and you may settle your tab at the end of the meal.
In an effort to reduce waste, we strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle to refill with water. Tap water in Morocco may not be safe to drink. It is generally considered safe to brush your teeth with, but some choose to use bottled water to avoid potential stomach issues. Where available, we provide purified water from larger containers to refill your bottles, rather than using many small single-use bottles throughout your trip.
